Freeborn County Humane Society’s 6-Legged 5 K Walk

Peggy and Colter at Humane Society 5k WalkHad an enjoyable morning on Saturday as my Shiloh Shepherd, Colter, and I joined the local Humane Society’s “6-Legged 5 K Walk.”  We had beautiful weather for the walk, lots of great dogs, and lots of great people.  All the proceeds for this event went to a worthy cause – the Freeborn County Humane Society.

Family Night at the Library

Library Family Night

Peggy helping children pick out a free book at “Family Night at the Library” literacy event.

I had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer at “Family Night at the Library” in Albert Lea. This family literacy event was a collaboration between School District 241 and the city of Albert Lea. Volunteers included teachers, firefighters, police officers, library personnel, and more. We served 550 area students and families with a free meal, free books, and literacy activities – all encouraging literacy at home for children. Lots of fun for all!

At The State Capitol

Peggy Bennett and Kurt Daudt

Peggy Bennett and Rep. Kurt Daudt

I had a great day today up at the state capitol. Rep. Kurt Daudt, House Minority Leader, and his executive assistant Bobby Patrick invited me to spend the day with them. I enjoyed observing the Republican caucus meeting at 9:00 a.m. where they went over the various bills that were up for a vote today. Rep. Tony Albright was kind enough to introduce me to the caucus as the endorsed candidate for 27A. Then, at 10:00, I joined all of the representatives on the House floor to observe a session in action. There was some lively discussion on a few of the bills, which I enjoyed watching. It was a very interesting and action packed day!

Thank you to Rep. Kurt Daudt (pictured with me here), Bobby Patrick, Rep. Tony Albright, and the many kind representatives who greeted me today to voice their encouragement and support. What a super group of people up there!
